Experience what it is like to be a beekeeper by joining the Honeysmith while he checks on his bees. A hands on beekeeping experience.

About the Experience

Experience what it is like to be a beekeeper by Joining the Honeysmith while he checks on his bees.

Your guide for the beekeeping experience will be Kurt Barnett owner of the Honeysmith. After a brief discussion about the amazing world of bees and their importance to us, Kurt will run you through the do’s and don’ts when opening a hive and what to look for during the inspection.  Then it will be time to suit up, grab your hive tool, light your smoker and get elbows deep in a working beehive.

During the hive inspection, you will be challenged to spot the queen and identify workers and drones. You may even witness the birth of a baby bee.

You will also get to taste honey straight from the hive.

At the end of the tour, you will enjoy a light snack and a beverage.

This experience is not designed to make you a beekeeper, but to give you an insight into what is involved in keeping bees. You never know it may just inspire you to seek further training and become a beekeeper yourself.

Due to the nature of beekeeping, the apiary tours are run from Spring to mid-Autumn only as hive inspections are not carried out over winter. Tours will run from mid-September through to the end of April (weather permitting).

Avoid disappointment and book early.
